Triads are an innovative way of encouraging seekers and new believers through prayer and Bible Study in groups of three. The secret of three people meeting together is that it does not involve a lot of planning for meeting place, host, agenda etc. as is the case with a small group. Three people can easily agree to meet at a certain time in a coffee shop, restaurant or other public place. The public place is important because it gives others in the community the opportunity to see the Triad in action and may peak the interest of some to want to join a Triad.
The three people include the mature Christian, a new believer and a seeker. Seekers often show their interest when the Triad is meeting in a public place. The agenda of the meeting is very simple. Agree to read a section of scripture and review it, sharing questions and reactions. Then discuss difficulties, sins and obstacles to a relationship with Jesus and pray about ways to overcome these. Part of the subsequent meeting will be devoted to updates on how the individuals are doing with their difficulty and more prayer/celebration is in order. Finally prayer for other people known to the Triad members who need to know or need to come closer to Jesus closes out the meeting.
This form of outreach and seeker support is outlined in great detail by Neil Cole in his book: Cultivating a Life for God (ChurchSmart Resources, 1999 [ISBN 1-889638-06-4]).
