Transformational Vision

Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Middleport, New York, is exploring God's unique vision for them as a congregation. They are anxious to carry out God's vision since society has taught us that time is too valuable to waste. The organizational structure of Holy Cross, as prescribed  by a TCN consultation, requires that leaders focus on accomplishing the vision that God has established for the congregation. The structure of the church is divided into two parts, the Governing Board and the Ministry Team. The Governing Board, with the Pastor as the chief vision officer, seeks God's vision for the church and the community, establishes the principles by which the Ministry Team operates, and then holds the Ministry Team accountable. The Ministry Team carries out the responsibilities of the congregation.

Holy Cross summarizes their vision in the phrase, "Modeling Christ that we may share eternity together." To accomplish this vision, they are reaching out to two groups, families with young children and mature adults. In the past six months, the congregation has doubled the size of their Vacation Bible School and Sunday school. They have started a second service for parents with young children and increased their church attendance from sixty five to ninety. After a short children's church, the children go to Sunday school, allowing their parents to worship.  The church has also become involved in a community-wide effort called the "Golden Rule Program" which seeks to focus the efforts of individuals into volunteering in the community. This program parallels the church's vision to look beyond their own needs and to concentrate on the needs of others. Transformational vision has forced Holy Cross to reprioritize the use of their resources from mainly on themselves to those who do no yet know Jesus as Savior. The ministries of the congregation must focus on and fit this new outwardly focused vision.
